Barkly Voices is an online singing program for people living in the Barkly region of the Northern Territory. It will give all people in Tennant Creek and remote communities across the Barkly an opportunity to sing together using today’s technology.
Barkly Voices is an exciting opportunity for self-expression online (solo or as a group) and for unifying the Barkly community. It will also be a powerful vehicle for promoting the Barkly region itself to the outside world.
A backing track of an original song from a Barkly songwriter will be engineered and distributed across the Barkly via this website. Participants using only their phones will be able to record their voices over the backing track and simultaneously video their performance.
All participants’ audio-visual recordings will be uploaded to the project team at BRA (via this link) and then edited into a single presentation. The final product will be broadcast to mainstream and social media in the Barkly and beyond.
Once this first song for Barkly Voices has been completed and broadcast successfully, the project will be ongoing and include collaborations with other Barkly musicians and songwriters. Using the infrastructure created by Barkly Voices, it is exciting to imagine future collaborative projects for a variety of cultural/creative pursuits as well, such as art, dance, storytelling and literature.
