Barkly Regional Arts is excited to announce that hip hop dance sensations CYPHER will bring their epic dance moves to Tennant Creek this September. Featuring a series a creative workshops and spectacular live performances, Barkly Regional Arts and Cypher invite community members to enjoy their high-energy dance battles and experience first hand the thrill of participating in a Cypher circle.

A ‘Cypher’ is hip hop’s most important ritual, a circle where style, rivalry and community exist and evolve.  Four battle hardened b-boys push the boundaries of their art form using it’s movement, gestures and energy to challenge, communicate and celebrate the culture of hip hop.  Backed by an original sound track that shifts between sound design, booming hip hop beats and a pumping party atmosphere. This performance invites you to step to the edge of the circle and witness the raw energy and culture that exists within it.

For those aspiring hip-hop dances there is a unique opportunity for you to get amongst the action and learn from some of the worlds greatest B-Boy dancers. Led by Nick Power, come along to the free workshops, learn some sweet new moves and have the rare opportunity to perform alongside hip-hop dance royalty at Cypher’s spectacular lives shows.

Following on from the creative workshops, Cypher will treat community members to two totally spectacular dance performances. Featuring epic ‘Cypher circle’ battles, mind-blowing dance moves and pumping hip hop tunes, come along and soak up the infectious energy and attitude that Cypher creates.

Finishing off a fantastic series of workshops and performances, Cypher will lead the community in a fun ‘block party’, giving aspiring new dancers a chance to battle it out and show off their creative new dance moves to friends and families. With music from local DJ and electro-extraordinaire Professor Prawn, great food and drinks (courtesy of Tennant Creek Childcare Centre) and a night of epic dance battles and creative rivalry, the block party will be a great way to cap off a unique, inspiring and seriously entertaining residency,
