Bush medicine is often a subject of depiction for the indigenous artists in the Barkly region. It includes a very serious knowledge, often related to women. In many aspects, it is different from our western medicine, their science includes relationship with the Country (homeland), with families, and a healthy way of life inherited by their ancestors, that is the reason it also includes bush tuckers, local animals and even rituals.
Bush tucker is a major subject of painting for Aboriginal artists, which is strongly related to the ancient knowledge from their past of hunter-gatherers.In Epenarra, people are still collecting bush tucker to feed their family and provide a healthy alternative to the Western food and to gather the whole family for teaching about the bush (bush school).
