Description
The area of Mangalawarru is considered as a semi-arid area and most of the years, the plants are limited to meager bushes and hard spinifex. But during the wet season, from November to February, there are heavy rains coming from Top End, which turn the dry creek into flowing river and change dramatically the landscape.
The appearance of flowers in the bush is a sign for the entire community to go hunting marlu*or kangaroo and collecting bush tuckers such as yakajirri* or bush sultanas.
These kinds of paintings are strongly associated with Ngapa Jukurrpa* or rain dreaming, borrowing some of the patterns from the traditional Warlpiri iconography.
