Bush tucker is a major subject of painting for Aboriginal artists, which is strongly related to the ancient knowledge from their past of hunter-gatherers.
In Epenarra, people are still collecting bush tucker to feed their family and provide a healthy alternative to the Western foods and a good way to teach about the bush to the young generation. It is also a good opportunity to gather the whole family.
Some of the regular bush tuckers painted feature bush sultana (solanum centrale*), plum bush (santalum lanceolatum*), or wild passion fruit (capparis spinosa*) and witchetty grubs (endoxyla leucomocla*).

Julie Peterson lives and works in Epenarra, which is her fathers and grandmothers country. She learned how to paint from her mother – Carol Beasley, when the art centre in Epenarra was first formed.
