Lots on today, as we say goodbye to two of our Bar Lots on today, as we say goodbye to two of our Barkly Arts members, our E.O Vanessa Hutchins and our Media Mob Operative William Thomson.

Vanessa Hutchins has been the E.O at Barkly Arts since Alan Murn's retirement and will be heading back to her home in Newcastle in NSW.

Will Thomson has been working at Barkly Regional Arts for the last 3 and a half years, documenting many different parts of the arts and culture around Tennant Creek and the wider Barkly region.
Will will go on to work down the road in Alice Springs for our good friends and supporters at @ictvaustralia (Indigenous Community Television, ICTV).

We wish both Vanessa and Will a big thank you and good luck and a safe journey for the future and hope that the Barkly Region holds a place in their hearts.

We also would like to give a big thank you and shout out to musician Shellie Morris @shelliemorrismusic who has dropped in, to record with our Winanjjikari Music Centre experts, Reggie and Dirk!

Large plate with Goats (17-TA94) by Lindy Brodie⁣
.⁣
Barkly Regional Arts has a full ceramic studio with a kiln, we've had many occasions where our former colleague, Honor Freeman (honor.freeman ), has trained our artists on producing these unique plates. ⁣
⁣
In 2015, we had a great project with NDIS - Story Plates, managed by Kathy Burn and Rhonda Plummer.⁣
.⁣
With this plate, Lindy Brodie refers to her family travelling with their goats from Wauchope to Singleton station.⁣

Slip-casted plate with underglaze decoration, 35 cm of diameter⁣

New to the collection: Army Painting (Warramunga: New to the collection: Army Painting (Warramunga: Courage in difficulties). Lindy 'Nungarrayi' Brodie (Alyawarr/Kaytetye/Waramungu) completed this work in 2019 after researching the story of the tribal-class destroyer HMAS Warramunga that was named after the Waramungu, her affiliation. The ship's badge shows an Aboriginal man throwing a boomerang and Brodie has reinterpreted this figure to show the presence of Indigenous soldiers in the battlefield.
"They travelled around all over the world everywhere...Long time, they have been fighting for us..." (Lindy Brodie, 2019).
The naming of the HMAS Warramunga and the ship's motto "Courage in Difficulties" pays tribute to the resilience of the Waramungu peoples, having experienced Frontier Wars during the 1900s, along with the harsh environmental conditions of the Central Desert.
Brodie was born in 1973 and grew up in Alroy Downs north-east of Tennant Creek. Brodie started her career as an artist in 2003 and has been with Tartukula Artists as part of Barkly Regional Arts since 2012. Her paintings often revisit the story of her family during the 1940s, and have been exhibited both nationally and internationally.

Just came back from our last trip out to Canteen C Just came back from our last trip out to Canteen Creek & Epenarra with a visit and supply drop for the artists for the end of the year.

It's also Debbie's last trip out bush before she finishes with Barkly Arts, so we made sure to get a nice solid memory with the artist!

We'd love to give a special thanks to all the artists out there in Epenarra & Canteen Creek, we'll be happy to see everyone in 2021!

And one last set of photos from our set of Batik w And one last set of photos from our set of Batik workshops we facilitated in Canteen Creek, Epenarra and Elliott communities.

Here we have Gail Sandy (Left) and Kulumindini Art centre manager Elaine Sandy (Right) presenting a few of their batik scarves that were made.

The workshops were done in Elliott at the artists' Kulimindini Arts Centre.

The workshop was possible with help from Alice Springs Artist Chris Ng, who had been taught Batik in Indonesia through a cultural exchange program.

The scarves were purchased from @sustainable_fashion who have been an absolute delight to talk with!
