Explore the beauty and tradition of batik, an Indonesian textile art form that uses wax resist dyeing to create intricate designs on fabric. Known for its vibrant patterns seen in sarongs across Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, batik has a rich cultural heritage.
Join artist Chris Ng in this hands-on weekend workshop where you’ll learn the traditional batik process, from creating your own designs to applying wax using specialized tools. Each full-day session will include a brief introduction to the history and cultural significance of batik, followed by the opportunity to create your own unique piece on cotton fabric. No prior experience is required—just bring your creativity!

About the Artist:
Chris Ng is a multimedia artist from Mparntwe (Alice Springs), with family roots in Malaysia, where batik is a common part of everyday life. After learning batik in Indonesia in 2019, Chris has shared their passion for the craft across Naarm, Mparntwe, and remote communities in the Barkly Desert region.
