Barkly Regional Art is excited to launch Desert Harmony Festival 2023. The festival will take place from Friday 28 July until Sunday 30 July in Tennant Creek. A celebration of the Barkly region’s diverse communities and rich artistic traditions, the Festival is a cherished event in the Northern Territory’s cultural calendar.
The theme for the 2023 festival is Kunjuku, Anyinginyi Jangarlki Kapi Kaminya Palpuru – Respect, Identity, Healing. This theme reflects Desert Harmony Festival’s commitment to building and celebrating community connections, pride and wellbeing.
“The theme for this year’s Desert Harmony Festival reflect the issues that are important to the people of the Barkly region,” said Barkly Regional Art’s Artistic Director Katie Lynch. “The festival is our region’s platform for communities to come together and celebrate the Barkly’s art and culture, old and new. We are excited to deliver a welcoming and inclusive festival which captures the spirit of respect, identity and healing.”
The festival will feature a diverse program of events, including music, dance, visual arts, and film. There will be performances and workshops by local and national artists, as well as opportunities for festival goers to learn about the region’s rich cultural history.
