Live Events Delight Tennant Creek
Late August and September has been eventful in Tennant Creek with the residents being treated to a range of music and comedy gigs.
Gomeroi rapper from Sydney’s Maroubra Kobie Dee toured the Territory for the first time doing free concerts along the Stuart Highway; fresh from the release of his new EP ‘Chapter 26’,
Kobie Dee and his crew collaborated with us to put on a free concert at the Tennant Creek Civic Hall on 29th August much to the delight of all the hip-hop lovers in town. Kobie’s performance was accompanied by Winanjjikari stalwart Dirk Kelly on the DJ decks that got everybody grooving.
Bringing the funnies to Tennant Creek- Deadly Funny comedy night was held on 26th Sep at the Tennant Creek RSL. Coming hot on the heels of Melbourne International Comedy Festival- taking Deadly Funny on a tour through the Territory, comedians Leon Filewood, Jay Wymarra and Kylan Ambrum had the audience in tears of laughter.
Cheeky and loud, black and proud, Deadly Funny is Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s national comedy competition unearthing the freshest and funniest First Nations talent from across the country. Hosting a free comedy workshop prior to the show- Leon Filewood and Jay Wymarra engaged in one on one mentoring of some budding Indigenous comedians ultimately seeing Barkly Regional Arts’ very own Jameson Casson take to stage and perform a stand-up set!
Ampilatwatja rockstars Alywarra Desert Reggae put on a free gig at the Tennant Creek Basketball Court on Friday the 18th of October at 11am. The band spent a week in Tennant Creek recording new music at Winanjjikari Music Centre and wrapped up their session with a Friday morning performance and sausage sizzle.
Enjoying the cool shade and a round of casual basketball accompanied by live music- the event was well attended by kids and older folk.
